The Memphis Belle is probably one of the most famous airplanes from WWII.  West Memorials is proud to step away from our usual cemetery monuments and flat markers and do something much bigger than the usual headstone as we help create and install the monument to the memory of this aviation marvel and the woman for whom the plane is named, Margaret Polk.

Sunday, October 23, 2011, at 2pm will be the official dedication of the memorial.  We hope you will be able to attend.  Folks as far away as Knoxville, TN, are excited about the memorial as seen by clicking here.

Below, we share some images of the installation of the memorial; but, first, here are some World War II references to the Memphis Belle, its crew members and more.

On Saturday I attended the Memphis Belle Memorial Association’s groundbreaking ceremony for a monument to the Memphis Belle in Veterans Plaza at Overton Park.  The Memphis Belle and its crew provided a vital service in World War II.  It was an honor and a privilege to pay tribute to the Flying Fortress.

And, as of October 21, 2011, DaMarco Randle has shared these photographs taken during the installation of the memorial, which is just a few feet from our own Korean War Memorial dedicated only a few years ago. Paul West, owner of West Memorials, and Zac West, along with Rene Rodriguez from our staff, align the stones in place for the addition of the beautifully sculpted bronze statue of Margaret Polk and relief sculpture taken from the portrait of the Memphis Belle Crew!
